On December 3, 2024, CHN Energy convened a progress meeting to review its key achievements in renewable energy and technological innovation.

In 2024, the Group's renewable energy installed capacity exceeded 110 GW, with hydropower capacity surpassing 20 GW. In parallel, the Group commissioned 2.9 GW of clean, efficient coal-fired power, maintaining its strong performance. Total power generation surpassed 1 trillion kWh 13 days earlier than in the previous year. The Group’s coal production and sales accounts for one sixth of China’s total, both power generation and heating supply account for one eighth of the total, andrail freight volume one ninth of the total.

The Group also made significant strides in technological innovation. Its independently developed linear alpha-olefin synthesis technology was published in Nature. Additionally, several groundbreaking projects were successfully commissioned, and best practices, such as the Group’s 4 E-platforms and the rapid coal quality testing, have become industry benchmarks. These advancements demonstrate the Group's focus on steady, high-quality development and enhanced sustainability.

In renewable energy, the Group achieved a historic milestone in the first half of 2024 by surpassing 100 GW in installed capacity. This includes 62.28 GW of wind power, maintaining its world-leading position, and 42.13 GW of solar power, reflecting rapid growth. By the end of 2024, the Group's renewable energy capacity is projected to exceed 120 GW, with newly constructed projects totaling 45.54 GW—an increase of 10.37 GW compared to the previous year.

Renewable energy now represents nearly 40% of the Group's overall energy portfolio, underscoring its robust transition toward clean energy. Landmark projects include the Qinghai Maerdang 10 GW-class integrated "water, solar and storage" energy base, significant progress at the Tengger Desert wind and solar base in Ningxia—the largest of its kind in China, and the commissioning of the world’s first floating integrated project of offshore wind power generation and fish farming, "Guoneng Sharing", in Putian, Fujian Province.

The Group has also advanced energy storage technologies, focusing on electrochemical, hybrid, grid-forming and thermal storage solutions. Key achievements include the grid connection of China’s largest grid-forming energy storage station at the Ningdong base, the commercial operation of the Zhejiang Meiyu energy storage station, and the launch of the Anhui Suzhou molten salt thermal storage project, the country’s first GWh-scale thermal storage-coal power integration initiative.

As of November 2024, the Group’s total installed power capacity reached 340 GW, marking a 50% increase over the past seven years. Since 2023, its average monthly power generation has exceeded 100 billion kWh, ensuring a reliable energy supply during critical peak periods in summer and winter. The Group’s contributions to China’s energy security and power supply reliability have become increasingly prominent.

In renewable energy development, the Group has maximized the use of hydropower resources in major river basins, including the Dadu River, Jinsha River, Kaidu River, and the upper Yellow River, as well as in Xizang. It has adopted a balanced approach to land-based and offshore projects, establishing three 1 GW-scale offshore wind power bases in Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces. The Group also prioritizes large-scale centralized PV bases while developing distributed PV projects tailored to local conditions. Over the past seven years, the share of renewable energy in its total capacity has grown from 24% to 38.2%, while coal consumption per kWh has dropped by 5.3 grams, signaling significant progress in green and low-carbon development.
