CHN Energy Launches First Virtual Power Plant in Guangdong

On December 10, 2024, the virtual power plant (VPP) control platform of CHN Energy Guangdong Integrated Energy Co., Ltd. was successfully integrated into the Shenzhen Virtual Power Plant Management Center. This marks the official launch of the Group's first virtual power plant in Guangdong Province, signifying a major breakthrough for the company in the development of strategic emerging industries.

A virtual power plant is a system that integrates distributed resources, including distributed generation, energy storage, and adjustable loads. By utilizing information and communication technology, smart metering and advanced optimization techniques, it responds to grid demands, participates in electricity market operations, and follows grid dispatch instructions.

Since September, the Guangdong Branch has actively implemented the Group’s focus on industrial innovation, accelerating the development of its VPP project. Through thematic discussions, the establishment of specialized workgroups, policy analysis and resource identification, the company successfully completed performance testing for VPP response. This allowed for effective aggregation and coordinated optimization of adjustable load resources, such as charging stations.

The newly launched virtual power plant aims to serve as a control platform for optimized scheduling of distributed energy resources across Shenzhen City. It will aggregate a group of adjustable load user resources to maximize flexibility across various time scales. In its first phase, the plant aggregates a total load resource capacity of 9.9 MW, with a maximum adjustable capacity of 1.41 MW.

Looking ahead, the company plans to explore additional adjustable resources, actively encourage user participation in precise demand response, refine electricity usage, and maximize synergies. It aims to establish itself as a leading VPP operator while exploring and implementing new application scenarios. These efforts will significantly contribute to advancing the coordinated interaction of power generation, transmission, distribution and storage, as well as building a new type of power system.
